We are trees tall and
proud, not ordinary
forest trees
though
those are grand as
well.
Town Center Trees must be strong
our roots are forever walked upon
our leaves are removed (in the fall)
leaves meant to
help fertilize us
keep our insect and
other creature friends
warm,
sometimes
our seeds, our very progeny are harvested
- we can only hope
they are cared for
and reach a new home.
Nevertheless, we do our duty.
In summer we offer shade
over picnickers' afternoon lunches,
and games that people play beneath us.
In winter we rest,
occasionally offering our blood of sap
for a sweet taste of maple.
In spring we demonstrate renewal
life, all life,
wants to live healthy and vibrantly.
In fall we display our true colors
ablaze -
when finally folks look up to us
and note our beauty.
We are your trees
of the Jericho Center Green.
Remember to leave Remember to leave a blanket (of leaves) for the wild things.
Thank Bernie!
