Jericho Families in Nature (JFiN) walk photos exploring trails and natural areas.
May 20 at Mobbs Hillside Trails, Jericho, Vermont
Led by Liz H. and Laura K. of JFiN
Magnifying glasses provided by Abbey and the Deborah Rawson Library found immediate application before we even left the parking lot.Never lose your inner child!
Game of King of the Hill.
Our first wildlife along the trail was moving s l o w l y even though it has many more legs than we do.
A Northern Starflower tells us we are on the right trail.
"A frog jumped in the water."
"Be careful you don't fall in."
"Why would I fall in?"
We all offered up what our favorite animal is. Will we see any of them in the woodlands? Bobcat, Dragonfly...
An EFT - juvenile Eastern Newt meanders across our path.
We measure its length and find it to be about 2 inches long.
The person with the image on their forehead asks another person yes or no questions in an effort to get hints as to what animal is pictured on their forehead.
First, we reached around it. Four arm lengths.
Then we used a 60" tape measure. Results are 60" plus one hand length or about 65" around.Time for a scavenger hunt!A Layered Cup (species TBD). Creeping foam flowers look like lights along the pathway. Northern Maidenhair fern. Bleedinghearts. A mystery plant, possibly a sedge.
