Abbey and Bernie led the JFiN (Jericho Families in Nature) walk at Crane Brook Conservation Trails on Sunday, July 9, from 10AM to 11:30 AM - see photos below.
The climbing required finesse at times.
Some of us were camera shy, some not.
Note that the names of plants or critters are speculative. The names are hot-linked to iNaturalst where you can check to see if anyone has confirmed or corrected the ID.
You never know where you might find a treasure or some other interesting hidden surprise.
We know this is a moth vs a butterfly by its antennae that look like feathers.
Let's make a dash for the woods,
it is sooo much cooler and more comfortable under the trees.
Troll Bridge
Discovered a toad home,
and the toad was indeed at home.
The toad is very good friends with the nearby Troll family.
Hey move over, let me take a look.
The striking bright orange juvenile stage,
which is land-dwelling, is known as a red eft.
Storytime with Abbey:
Where Wonder Grows
by Xelena Gonzalez
A little musical accompaniment with storytime.
Exploring offers so much to discover. Sometimes someone in the group can identify what we see, other times, we wonder and suggest what it might be. And we wonder how it came to be where and what it is. Has something been eating on it? Did we find a critter's home? How did those extremely large boulders get where they are today?
What might this be?
We decided it looked like Mickey Mouse as well as baby deer...
- Bernie and the rest of the JFiN team encourage you to enjoy nature whether it be in your own yard, at a park, in the forest, or at a wetland.
