Noise is my nemesis

Noise is my Nemesis

Noise is my nemesis. It chews on me frequently, antagonizes, disrupts, disquiets my inner peace; sets off my ADHD rattled brain like a ball in a pinball machine, disrobes my deeper calm, unleashes my irritability, steals away my most prized immersions in nature, drowns out nature sounds - drips of water, gentle flowing streams, birds chirping and singing, air flowing between leaves, frogs chirping, leaves crunching under foot, plants and insects talking - all altered and most buried.

Quiet, I crave more than chocolate or coffee in the morning, more than music in the afternoon, more than paddling on calm waters, and more than most any modern convenience.

Even our woodlands are raped with our blaring and blasting, our cutters and blowers, our steel horses, our thoughtless shouts of "humans are here - to hell with all other life".

When we are all gone, the Earth will whisper, softly as it has always done, "Can you hear me now?" across our rattling bones.
