Bug of the Week, Jericho Vermont

Welcome to my Journal of Discovery of Insects in Jericho, Vermont. I am focusing mainly on our backyard (1+ acre homestead). We hope by planting many native shrubs, trees, and wildflowers we will see an increase in insect diversity in the backyard over the next few years.

This journal post will highlight a few of the hundreds of insect observations in our backyard. To view more insects, and animals viewed in Jericho, Vermont, and recorded by myself and others visit iNaturalist at

For an inspiring introduction to observing insects, view Bryan Pfeiffer's presentation (starting at 17:30 minutes into this recording) " Insects for Birders" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwO82vMpPCU

April 9, 2020, as the temperature in Jericho, Vermont reaches about 73 degrees, I am assured by this Azure that it is spring.
